Westside Men's Lacrosse Welcomes Michael Song as Varsity Head Coach

Michael Song has been playing lacrosse since his childhood in Virginia, and he has coached the sport for over a decade to youth through varsity high school and college players.

Coach Song was most recently Director of Boys and Girls Lacrosse/Boys Head Coach at Long Beach Polytechnic HS, named one of the top ten sports schools in the country according to ESPN.  At Poly, Coach Song launched the program and graduated it from a club to a CIF school sport, earning an overall coaching record of 43-25 (.632), including a startup season of 7-6 with all first-time players.  At Poly, Coach Song earned his players over a dozen scholarship offers in the four-year program history, and he also developed Long Beach Youth Lacrosse, a youth, and feeder program offering lacrosse to minorities and lower income families.

Prior to LB Poly, Coach Song served as Varsity Assistant and JV Head at Mira Costa HS in Manhattan Beach, CA, where he led the team to an 11-1 record.

As a player, Michael was a midfielder for the Korea National Team in the 2002 World Lacrosse Championships, starting all games including Sweden, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Wales, and Ireland.  In college, Michael attended Lehigh University, choosing to play club and earned NCLL All-Star accolades, as well as competing in the NCLL national championship tournament two times, reaching both semi-finals and quarter-finals in '97 and '01 respectively.

Coach Song comes to Houston to head Westside HS/West Houston Lacrosse, and to work with the staff at the University of Houston.  “I have always been an advocate for diversity and inclusion through lacrosse, and I’m excited about growing the sport in Houston, promoting a Life in Leadership philosophy, and continuing to help provide avenues for college scholarships.  I look forward to being part of the Houston lacrosse community.”

Wall Ball "300"

Wall Ball is the #1 way to improve stick skills. Whether it's catching, throwing, shooting, or ground balls, Wall Ball can improve these skills for every player.

We suggest you wear helmet and gloves when practicing wall ball--nobody wants a broken nose or chipped teeth. This also helps you get familiar with playing with your equipment on, which will help you at practice and during games.

This is a college workout that was provided to LaxLibrary.com.

This is a great way to get 300 reps catching and throwing done in 6-8 minutes if you're really good, 10-15 minutes if you're just starting out. At most it will take you 20 minutes a day to make massive improvements in your individual stick skills.

Turn the TV off, put the phone down. Go outside and get on the wall.
